The Italian struggle
against obesity.

Prof Girolamo Sirchia, the Italian minister
of the Health, has declared war to the obesity, and he asked the restaurants to
reduce the portions. [??]
The idea to reduce the amount of the food
intake to avoid becoming fat has its ground. Nobody of the surviving prisoners
of Auschwitz was fat.
However it is better prevent than to take
care of, and so the Ministry of Health could save up money. A better feeding
education would be a worthy task, mainly about what the children are usually
eating, and the mothers have to be less indulgent towards snacks, fried chips
and sparking sweet drinks.
The Minister's program is all correct, but
perhaps the things are not so simple. To eat is even to stimulate the mouth, a
sensory zone, tactile and tasting, with wide brain projections.
Persons with feeding troubles are stuffed
themselves then they go to vomit, and in that way they do not introduce
calories. Surely they stimulate the oral zone and the related brain areas. Is
this only cultural behaviour? I saw it in a Down syndrome 29-years-old woman
who doesn't neither to have it read t neither to have it learned from other
persons.
The infant uses the pacifier or he is
sucking his thumb, having the thumb too too wide sensory brain projections.
Psychotic children put into their mouths the
whole flat hand, especially if they become anxious.
Surely to chewing the chewing-gum, has also
this explanation.
Only exceptions that confirm the rule?
Moreover, our brain seems always to play the cannon. A bowl strikes an other
bowl that in its turn strikes still a third one, and so on.
May we suppose that for many persons to eat
was even a kind of not rationally aware antistress self-medication?
Many smokers stimulate with the cigarette
the brain nicotinic receptors.
The alcohol would be the best
antidepressant-anxiolytic drug, if it does not own so many side effects and
damaging possibilities.
Eventually, before destroying a defence, as
the psychoanalysts told us, we need to know what does replace it, otherwise the
worse would rise.
