HAS THE BENIGN POSTURAL PAROSSISTIC VERTIGO ANY LINK WITH STRESS?
By Renato Cocchi, MD.
The
benign parossistic postural vertigo is a form of
dizziness with unknown aetiology, very disturbing but nearly always with
favourable prognosis. The presence of nistagmus at
least suggests an involvement of the vestibule.
A
personal experience led me to me to hypothesize a relationship with stress for
these reasons:
1. I have
the canonical age for this illness.
2. I did not have any ear illness nor brain traumas.
3.
Episodes of vertigo were mainly present in the morning.
4. I
had an episode when completely bed resting with shut eyes. I had the distinct
perception of a squint, although my eyes were shut.
5. My
first episode followed a somatic stress.
6. With
antistress drug therapy I can always limit the course
of each episode.
